Two upcoming public lectures at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary focus on local Climate Change issues.

CLIMATE CHANGE IN MASSACHUSETTS
Thursday, March 29, 2 p.m.
Presenter: Robert Buchsbaum, Mass Audubon Regional Scientist

Examples of climate change in Massachusetts are already evident and many more are anticipated over the next 50-100 years. This lecture will focus on the effects of climate change on Massachusetts' oceans, coastal marshes, forests, and vernal pools with particular attention to the responses plants and animals have already made under the influence of our changing climate. The latest predictions of what of what the Commonwealth will look like in the not too distant future will also be reviewed.

INFLUENCING CLIMATE CHANGE IN NEW ENGLAND
Friday, April 27, 7 p.m.
Presenter: Rob Pratt, Senior Vice President of the Henry P. Kendall Foundation's Climate Change Program

This presentation will provide an overview on climate change, its far reaching implications, and how the combustion of fossil fuels is at the root of the problem. With the recent release of the report of the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change, indicating that there is now more than a 90%likelihood that mankind's activities are dangerously warming the planet, this topic addresses the environmental issue of the century. The presentation will focus on potential solutions, particularly what we in New England can do to counteract growing greenhouse gas emissions in our homes, our workplaces, our communities and our states. Mr. Pratt will argue that while federal action is desirable, we can take important and effective steps here and now.

Both presentations will be held at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in South Wellfleet. The cost for the talks is $5 for Mass Audubon members and $7 for non-members. Registration is required for the presentations. Please call 508-349-2615 for more information or to register.
