July 26: Restoring Our Salt Marshes: Brendan Annett, Manager, Waquoit
Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve: In the past, salt marshes were
often thought of as smelly, useless places to be filled in. Now
substantial effort is being put into trying to restore these precious
areas. This program will illustrate the beauty and benefits of salt
marshes and provide an inside look at how scientists study and restore
these wetlands at Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. In
addition to the latest information coming out of this research, there
will be a brief update on the salt marsh restoration work happening at
Scusset Beach State Reservation.

Aug. 2: From Your Shed to the Shore: Discover Your Coastal Connections:
Joan Muller, Education Coordinator, Waquoit Bay National Estuarine
Research Reserve, This program doesn't stop at pointing out the
problems we've caused for our coastal waters. There will be plenty of
practical information on how to be a positive force to protect coastal
waters including ecological landscaping tips, insight into wastewater
solutions and tips for saving energy including sources for obtaining
some home grown power.

Aug. 9: Shoreline Geology: Chris Weidman, Research Coordinator, Waquoit
Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve: Find out how Scusset Beach and
other coastal areas were formed and what processes are still at work
here. Learn about how scientists study these shifting sands and how the
geologic features we see today can give us insight into the puzzles of
the past.

All programs are free and reservations are not required. For further
information, contact Joan Muller, Education Coordinator at Waquoit Bay
