July 18th: * One Fish, Two Fish, Global Warming, No Fish.* Ernie Eldredge,
Weir Fisherman and Fisheries Advocate, will look at how changes in catches
and species may be indicative of climate change in the waters of Nantucket
Sound, and what local fishermen are doing to address these changes.
July 25th: * Fly Away Where?* Wayne Petersen, Director of the Massachusetts
Important Bird Areas (IBA) Program at the Massachusetts Audubon Society,
speaks about the importance of birds as environmental indicators.
August 1st: * Hard Shells, Hard Times*. Shannon Eldredge, Chatham
Shellfisherwoman. A young native and descendant of a long line of Cape
commercial fishermen talks about changes in shellfish populations and the
shellfishing industry around Cape Cod.
August 8th: * Sealing Their Fate*. Sarah Herzig, Stranding Coordinator,
Cape Cod Stranding Network, addresses the changes in seal populations on
Cape Cod over the past thirty years, including resident and transient seal
populations, as well as patterns in stranding frequency, seasonality, and
location.
August 15th: * Right Whales in the Wrong Places*. Charles "Stormy" Mayo,
Director of Right Whale Habitat Studies, Provincetown Center for Coastal
Studies, speaks to the critical role plankton plays in the ocean's food webs
and how whales are impacted by changes in the marine ecosystem, especially
to shifts in plankton production at the bottom of the food web.
