On Saturday, September 22 at 4:00 pm Dr. John Juriga will speak on Rachel
Carson and Her Book Illustrators: Howard Frech and Bob Hines.  This program
is free to the public.

 

Dr. Juriga was the guest curator of the 1999 exhibit Witness for Nature: the
World of Rachel Carson at the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury,
Maryland and is honorary curator of Awakening Nature's Voice: Rachel Carson
1907-2007 at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History.  His collection of
original graphic studies by Howard Frech and Bob Hines used in Rachel
Carson's acclaimed books Under the Sea-Wind and The Edge of the Sea are
presently on display as part of the Museum's Rachel Carson Centennial
Exhibition.

 

This talk and visual presentation, an extraordinary insight into the
relationship of author and artist in creating a natural history book-- both
scientific and poetic, will be of great interest to enthusiasts and
collectors of wildlife illustration.
