Tuesday August 14th (9:00-11:00AM) Salt Marsh Restoration at South Cape
Beach
Meet at Bayberry Parking Lot, on the right, just passed the South Cape
Beach State Park, Mashpee.
Up and down the East coast individuals and organizations are
recognizing the vital role that salt marshes play and are taking steps
to restore these systems to their previous healthy conditions. Waquoit
Bay Reserve Research Intern, Andrew Tweel, will share his knowledge and
love of salt marshes as he details his work to restore the marsh behind
the South Cape barrier beach. He will describe the importance of salt
marshes and how they function and explain why the restoration work is
needed. You will learn about the Reserves monitoring efforts to document
species as you are introduced to the plants and animals living in the
marsh. Comparisons of wildlife before and after the restoration work may
be used to help determine the success of the project. Andrew will
explain the methods that will be used and possible outcomes for the
future.
