The Maria Mitchell Association (MMA), a vibrant nonprofit with a compelling
mission to further science education, encourage women in science and to
serve as a science resource for Nantucket seeks an individual with
entrepreneurial skills to provide leadership and strategic direction for
education program for all ages. The Education Director will be responsible
for the development of the MMA Discovery Center with education programs that
build recognition of the MMA's name and mission and provide year round
outreach to residents and visitors to Nantucket.
Job Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage the education program and expand it to fulfill the
educational objectives of the MMA,
* Direct the development, implementation and evaluation of new and
existing education initiatives,
* Facilitate collaborative projects with local and regional nonprofit
organizations and educational partnerships with local school,
* Expand teacher training and professional development programs,
* Collaborate with key program and administrative staff to integrate
multidisciplinary aspects of MMA education programs,
* Manage financial aspects of the program including developing and
maintaining program budget, hiring education staff, marketing and
advertising, and fundraising for education programs.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of BA/BS in science, education or an
environmental science related field. S/he must have experience teaching,
developing curriculum and a working knowledge of science curriculum
standards; be an effective leader; possess strong organizational skills;
have the capacity for working on a team; be innovative and have the ability
to manage multiple projects and people; possess strong presentation skills
and excellent interpersonal and group communication skills; proficiency with
PC platform computers, MS applications such as Excel, Word, Power Point and
knowledge of HTML and database programs.
Salary commensurate with experience. Health benefits and low cost housing
