Press Releasee:
Cape Cod National Seashore Welcomes Visiting School Field Trip Groups to
Salt Pond Visitor Center

Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent George Price has announced that
the Salt Pond Visitor Center will be welcoming school field trips planning
to visit the park this spring.  Cape Cod National Seashore offers
outstanding hands-on educational opportunities for students.

Park films, including “Sands of Time,” “Wooden Ships, Men of Iron,” and
“Voice of Cape Cod” will be playing on a regularly-scheduled basis at the
Salt Pond Visitor Center; the films offer a valuable perspective into the
natural and cultural history of Cape Cod.  In addition, the Visitor Center
museum showcases native flora and fauna species and highlights local
maritime history, including the U.S. Lifesaving Service and whaling and
fishing traditions.  A copy of “scavenger hunt” guides through the museum
can be mailed or faxed to teachers in advance for use during field trips.
Supervised school groups are also welcome to take advantage of the
Seashore’s beaches and our 11 self-guiding nature trails throughout the
park.

Staff at the Visitor Center will make every effort to provide brief
orientations to visiting school groups either inside the Center or outside
on the terrace fronting the Salt Pond.  Due to staffing differences
throughout the week, we cannot guarantee that a ranger will be on hand to
provide an orientation.

In order to most effectively serve visiting groups during this busy time of
year, the Visitor Center requests that teachers provide advance notice of
their intention to visit Salt Pond Visitor Center.  Please call
508-255-3421, ext. 0 for more information or to make a reservation for the
date of your visit.  The Salt Pond Visitor Center is open daily from 9:00
am to 4:30 pm.  Additional information is available on the Cape Cod
National Seashore Website at www.nps.gov/caco/education.

Sincerely

Sue Haley
