The Massachusetts Chapter of the Sierra Club and the Cape Cod Group is
sponsoring an ecological hike led by biologist Chris Neill to explore the
Lyman Reserve which is managed by the Trustees of Reservations on the edge
of Cape Cod, Saturday, October 22, 10 am ? noon.
Walk along the restored Red Brook, once bordered by cranberry bogs but now
a thriving naturalized river that contains one of the region's last
populations of sea run brook trout. Learn about the history of this
spectacular 210-acre property and about the ecology of Red Brook and its
adjoining estuary. Those with binoculars may be treated to some late fall
migrant birds. Be prepared with boots to walk through damp spots near the
river. For more information on the Lyman Reserve go to the web site at:
http://www.thetrustees.org/pages/330_lyman_reserve.cfm
>From Route 25, get off at exit 2 (to Buzzards Bay, Bourne) just north of
the Bourne Bridge on the Cape Cod Canal. Bear right off ramp and take an
immediate right onto Head of the Bay Road. Follow for approximately three
miles around the eastern and northern shores of Buttermilk Bay. Parking
lot entrance is about 250 feet beyond Packard Street on right.
>From the Cape or from the Bourne Bridge, get on Route 6 (Cranberry
Highway) going W. towards Wareham. After about 2 miles (after crossing
inlet to Buttermilk Bay), make a right on Head of the Bay Road. The
preserve parking area, with signs is about 5 minutes down Head of the Bay
road, on left.
