RABIES ON CAPE COD SUBJECT OF LECTURE AT MASS AUDUBON

South Wellfleet, MA. – With the recent arrival of terrestrial rabies on Cape
Cod, and the attack on a human by a rabid coyote earlier this month, the
need for public information on this disease is great. Dr. Alison Robbins of
Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine will be presenting a public
lecture entitled “Understanding Rabies” at Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay
Wildlife Sanctuary on Thursday, March 31 at 7 p.m. Dr. Robbins has been
studying rabies for many years and coordinated the baiting program that
prevented the spread of the disease for many years here on Cape Cod.

The arrival of rabies on the Cape has resulted in an outbreak of concern and
misconception about the disease. This FREE public lecture will provide
information on the nature of the disease, discuss its possible impact on
wildlife, dispel myths, address issues facing Cape Cod, and provide
information on steps people can take to reduce chances of contact and the
spread of the disease. Time will also be allowed for questions.

While the program is free, participants are encouraged to call the Wellfleet
Bay Wildlife Sanctuary to register because seating is limited. Contact the
Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary at 508-349-2615 for more information or to
register.
