Green Home & Business: Focus on Energy workshop series starts March 1 with a
look at Quick Fix Tricks to Reduce Your Electric Bill.

Practical "in-home" solutions that address energy efficiency and renewable
energy will be the focus of Green Home & Business: Focus on Energy, an
educational series for homeowners and small businesses that will be held on
Tuesdays, March 1, 8, 22, 29 and April 5 at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife
Sanctuary in South Wellfleet from 2-4 p.m. and then repeated later that day
at Waquoit Bay Reserve from 7-9 p.m.

The series starts on March 1 with Quick Fix Tricks to Reduce Your Energy
Bill, information on how you can reduce your electric bill through existing
rebates and energy-saving products presented by Kevin Galligan of Cape Light
Compact. Mr. Galligan will also provide an overview of how the region's
electric grid functions and how energy is currently distributed and stored
and explain a brand new program that allows rate payers to buy clean,
renewable power from New England sources. Kevin will be available to answer
questions about changes that will be coming about in March as the
Massachusetts Electric Restructuring Act of 1997 kicks in. Standard Offer
price protections, which kept prices artificially low for consumers who were
customers of NStar before March 1, 1998, will disappear and consumers will
need to make some informed decisions.

In addition, Megan Amsler of Cape and Islands Self-Reliance will give
participants the inside-scoop on an upcoming program that can put solar
panels on the roofs of homes or small businesses to generate electricity.

Other topics covered in this series include: energy efficiency in your home
to reduce heating costs; alternative vehicles and use of bio-diesel; and
wind turbines for individual homes and businesses.

The workshops are sponsored by four partners: Cape & Islands Renewable
Energy Collaborative, Cape and Islands Self-Reliance, Mass Audubon, and
Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The programs are FREE and
registration is not required, but preferred. Participants can attend the
entire series or individual dates.

Each workshop will feature expert speakers, networking and discussion time,
and take-home information designed to help people improve quality of life,
save money, and help protect the Cape's natural resources.

For additional information about this FREE series or to register please
