Land-Based Wind Workshops offered in Eastham, Hyannis, and Bourne on
Nov. 16 and 17

Citizens across the Cape will have the opportunity to attend one of
three WIND 101 forums on community land-based wind on Tuesday, November
16 or Wednesday, November 17. These presentations will introduce
residents to the basics of the utility scale wind turbines now being
considered by many Cape towns. Forums will feature Sally Wright, a
nationally recognized expert in wind energy and Staff Engineer at the
University of Massachusetts Renewable Energy Research Laboratory
(www.ceere.org). Sally has been working with many of the communities
around Massachusetts considering erecting their own wind turbines
including many Cape towns, and is very familiar with the issues they are
facing. On Tuesday, November 16, the presentation will be offered at 2
pm at Eastham Town Hall and repeated at 7 pm in the Science Building,
Lecture Hall A at Cape Cod Community College in Hyannis. On Wednesday,
November 17, the presentation will be repeated in the cafeteria at the
Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School at 7 pm.

Almost every town on Cape Cod is investigating the potential of wind
turbines to save taxpayer money, improve energy security, and protect
the environment and public health of their residents. Because modern
wind turbines are new to the Cape, any proposal is sure to raise some
concerns within a community. These forums are designed to answer the
most commonly asked questions about wind energy and dispel some of the
most common myths. Ms. Wright will cover economics, birds, sound and
visual impacts, environmental effects, and there will be time for an
interactive question and answer period with the audience as well.

These workshops are free and funded through a grant from the
Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust. They are organized by Cape Cod
Community College, Cape and Islands Self-Reliance, and Waquoit Bay
National Estuarine Research Reserve. For further information, contact
