JOB TITLE: STEWARDSHIP ASSISTANT
JOB #/ STATUS: 8035/ non-exempt, full-time, short-term
PAY: $10.00 per hour
LOCATION: Barnstable, MA
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Stewardship Assistant will work on an interdunal swale restoration
project on a 6 mile barrier island. Two Stewardship Assistants will work in
the field under the direction of the Restoration Stewardship Technician.
Other TNC staff and volunteers will join the crew as needed and available.
Responsibilities will include invasive plant mapping, monitoring, and
control, assisting with volunteer work trips, and special projects as
needed. These projects may include species inventory and monitoring,
management planning and data gathering/analysis. The Stewardship Assistant
is supervised by the Assistant Director of Conservation Science. The
Stewardship Assistant will be housed at a partner organization¹s field
station in Barnstable on Cape Cod. This short-term position will last for
approximately 8 weeks, from August 15 October 8. Housing will be provided
and is considered a taxable component of the compensation package.
Job Duties
1. Stewardship and ecological restoration work will consist primarily of
invasive species inventory and control (including herbicide application).
2. Additional duties may include tree and shrub clearing, trail maintenance,
maintenance of stewardship equipment, data management, or other tasks as
assigned.
Entrance Requirements
1. Stewardship or monitoring experience, including knowledge and preferably
training on the safe use and maintenance of mechanical equipment and
chemicals.
2. Strong interest in land stewardship/ecological restoration.
3. Willingness to undertake strenuous field work under rugged field
conditions (including ticks and poison ivy).
4. Possession of, or interest in obtaining, an herbicide applicator¹s
license.
5. Ability to work in the field alone or as part of a team
6. Flexibility in regards to living arrangements.
