Butterflies Across Cape Cod
To celebrate the first guide to the butterflies of Cape Cod, Natureís
Circle has invited lepidopterist Tor Hansen of Truro to give a slide
presentation and book-signing of the new book Butterflies Across Cape
Cod. The event will take place at the West Falmouth Library on May 14
at 7:30 pm.
The lecture will provide information on the life cycle of the
butterfly, its habitats and plant needs, notes on populations and the
roles butterflies play in the circle of nature.
Tor Hansen, naturalist, photographer and one of the most knowledgeable
butterfly enthusiasts on Cape Cod, has spent 10 years gathering material
and preparing for the new publication. Co-author Mark Mello is Director
of Research at the Lloyd Center for Environmental Studies in Dartmouth.
Edited by John Hay and published by the Cape Cod Museum of Natural
History (CCMNH), the book will be presented at a celebration on May 8, 1
- 4 pm, at the CCMNH in Brewster. During May, June and July there will
be twelve different lectures and field trips on all parts of the Cape
led by Tor Hansen and Alison Robb.
In the book, color photographs by Hansen illustrate the 76 species of
butterfly found on the Cape. Twenty sites are described in detail where
specific butterflies can usually be found.
The public is invited to the West Falmouth Library on May 14 at 7:30 pm
for this colorful event. Please join us in support of the butterflies
of the world and for Natureís Circle. Admission $8. Further
information at 508-540-2408, nature at cape.com or Natureís Circle
