The Rachel Carson Dinner, on Saturday night, October 18, in Falmouth, will
honor the memory and legacy of one of America's great environmentalists. "Ray"
Carson was a marine biologist and nature writer who was identified with Woods
Hole for many years. She may be best-known because of her book "Silent
Spring."

The October 18 gathering will be a fundraiser to assist Falmouth's organic
community garden and to support the community food pantries that help
Bourne, Falmouth, Sandwich, and Mashpee Village. All of the money raised on
October 18 will go to these non-profit programs. Everyone is invited to the Rachel
Carson program. It's hoped that this will become an annual event for Cape
Cod.

A ham and bean supper will be served at the Unitarian Universalist
meetinghouse, in East Falmouth, from 6-7 pm, on October 18. At 7:00 pm, entertainment
will be provided by blues harmonica player Sam Hotchkiss and the legendary
Falmouth Fiddlers. Tickets at the door will be $10 per adult. The suggested
donation for children 5-12 is $5 per child.

Vegetarian meals will be available for people who prefer vegetarian meals.
There will be an information display on October 18 with information about
Falmouth's organic community garden and local food pantry needs. Information will
also be available on some of the local groups that are responding to
pesticides problems. NOTE: If you're involved with organic gardens, or if you're
involved with local environmental organizations, with literature to display, the
Carson Dinner organizers can provide you with some free exhibit space. Space
is limited. Please call for information.

The Unitarian Universalist meetinghouse is located at 840 Sandwich Road in
East Falmouth. The congregation is the sponsor of the Rachel Carson Dinner.
For additional information, please telephone the meetinghouse at (508) 457-0449.
