The Sea Education Association in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, is currently
taking applications for last minute openings in its Teacher Seminar
(June 29, 2003 thru August 1, 2003) Research at SEA. The seminar is
funded by the National Science Foundation program and is Oceanographic
Research Experience for Middle and High School Teachers that affords the
opportunity to explore the oceanic environment while learning about the
scientific research process first-hand. Using a fully equipped sailing
research vessel as the platform, and calling upon the expertise of
oceanographers from the Woods Hole scientific community, Research at SEA
allows learning through personal experience, how research scientists
pose and attempt to answer scientific questions. Participants gain
first-hand experience in conducting scientific investigations in the
field, and the enhanced knowledge base necessary to offer similar
experiences to their students. In addition, living and studying aboard
a sailing research vessel presents a personal challenge that refreshes
and revitalizes one's teaching.
