The morning will consist of a community briefing by the US Coast Guard and other agencies involved in the clean-up and restoration efforts, followed by a discussion about the short- and long-term effects of oil on the Buzzards Bay ecosystem. The event is free and open to the general public. Registration will begin at 8 am, at which time agencies involved in the clean-up effort will have information booths set up to field questions and concerns, followed by a briefing by the US Coast Guard Unified Command at 9 am. Scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution will present and answer questions about the short- and long-term impact of oil spills on the health of Buzzards Bay. Seth Kaplan from the Conservation Law Foundation will discuss the long-term impacts of fossil fuel use on the global and local environment.
