National Tour of Solar Homes
Saturday October 5, 2002 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Local Activities
This Saturday, October 5 from 10:00am to 4:00pm the Alchemy Farm Cohousing Community in Hatchville, East Falmouth, will be hosting local activities for the annual National Tour of Solar Homes organized by the American Solar Energy Society and regionally sponsored by NESEA the New England Sustainable Energy Association - http://www.nesea.org/buildings/solartour/
There will be tours of four homes that have incorporated solar heating and solar electric (PV {photovoltaic}) systems. These homes include both site-built, and modular forms of construction. Two types of composting toilets, used to treat household wastes, are also featured.
A Renewable Energy demonstration trailer will be in attendance, courtesy of CIREC (the Cape and Islands Renewable Energy Collaborative) to demonstrate renewable energy production from the sun and wind. Come by for a visit and see these systems in use. Get your questions answered about the use of clean, reliable, locally available renewable energy sources for your home.
This year the Alchemy Farm solar home tour will also feature a home-scaled biodiesel processor which converts waste fryer oil into fuel used to run a car, and a hot water heater.
Directions to the open house can be found at the Cape and Islands Renewable Energy CollaborativeÀs website - www.cirenew.org
