ATTENTION EDUCATORS and OUTREACH STAFF:

There is a new activity guide available called
"Understanding Invasive Aquatic Weeds," produced by
the Aquatic Plant Management Society and some
Connecticut Sea Grant folks.

These guides are available, free of charge, to
educators and outreach staff. WHOI Sea Grant would
be happy to cover the shipping costs to get a
quantity of them to our Woods Hole office. If you
would like some, please let me know soon how many
you would like. I will order them and you can either
pick them up from our office, or we can arrange to
ship them at cost.

This activity guide is aimed at the 5th grade
level.  It's 16 pages, lavishly illustrated in
color, with fun homework exercises and a vocabulary
at the end. Hydrilla, water hyacinth, and purple
loosestrife are all included. It's intended for
classroom use, although I suspect that if your town
has a problem with aquatic weeds, they would make a
nice handout at Town Hall or to various town
committees/boards/associations.

I have requested some sample copies if you are
interested in looking through the guide first before
ordering. They should be available in a week or so.
However, if you are at all interested in the topic,
I would recommend placing an order "sight unseen."
