Wastewater Management Districts Workshops
Thursday, March 21, 9:00-4:30, Cape Cod & Islands Association of Realtors Conference Center, Yarmouth
Repeated on Friday, March 22, 9:00-4:00, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Southeast Regional Office, Lakeville
Downloadable brochure: www.waquoitbayreserve.org/news.htm
Wastewater issues are now taking center stage in many towns along coastal Massachusetts. While people have identified problems arising from wastewater, few have decided upon and implemented the solutions. Giving people the latest information on wastewater management districts is the goal of the workshops.
Speakers:
Dr. Karen Mancl of Ohio State University, who will give overviews of the wide range of wastewater management districts around the country, their advantages and disadvantages, and some of her research into keys for successful wastewater management districts;
John Giorgio, Esquire, of Kopelman and Paige, will explain the Massachusetts legal framework for establishing these districts;
Pio Lombardo of Lombardo Associates will discuss funding issues;
Brian Dudley, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, will discuss regulatory issues;
Ed Eichner, Cape Cod Commission, will discuss issues and programs on Cape Cod (Thursday only);
and two case studies will be presented by Daniel Ottenheimer (City of Gloucester) and Richard Dinges (Stinson Beach, CA).
There is no charge for the workshops. Pre-registration is requested. Contact the Waquoit Bay NERR (508-457-0495) and speak with Laurie Tompkins (x 108) if you need more information or to register for the workshop.
The workshops are sponsored by the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, Cape Cod Commission, and Falmouth Associations Concerned with Estuaries and Salt Ponds (FACES).
