Teaching About Climate Change: Cool Tools for a Hot Topic

What should we teach students about climate change? How do we make sense of observed climate trends and cycles? We will look at research on and evidence for climate change, try out some classroom activities, and train educators to use the Climate Change Backpack, available for free loan from Waquoit Bay Reserve. Charge Up Your Curriculum with Renewable Energy

Materials Fee: $10
Co-sponsored by Cape and Islands Self Reliance Corporation and Waquoit Bay Reserve. This workshop addresses the frameworks for Grades 6-10; however, teachers of other grades are welcome to attend. Teachers will come away with a basic understanding of concepts and issues concerning renewable energy, its relationship to Cape Cod's environment, and ways citizens can help. Participants will build and take home small working models to illustrate energy efficiency, solar energy (photovoltaic and solar thermal) and wind energy, and train to use the Renewable Energy Lending Kit. WET workshop

This workshop introduces the nationally acclaimed WET curriculum and activity guide with over 90 interdisciplinary activities that are interactive and easy to use. We will try out several activities and relate them to issues on Cape Cod. Includes a range of activities for grades K-12. 10 PDPs available.
