Position Opening- Conservation Agent

The Town of Bourne Conservation Commission seeks a qualified individual for the full time position of Conservation Agent. 


Responsibilities:

The Agent is responsible for processing permit applications, performing site inspections and responding to complaints under the Massachusetts State Wetlands Protection Act and the Bourne Wetlands Protection By-law. The Agent functions as the primary field enforcement officer for the Conservation Commission

The Agent will organize information for the Conservation Commission's bimonthly public hearings, prepare and publish legal notification of such meetings, and draft permits for ratification by the Commission. The Agent will be responsible for managing town lands in the care of the Bourne Conservation Commission, including the maintenance of trails, maps and signage.  The Agent will also provide conservation-related technical assistance to other town departments, committees and volunteer organizations dedicated to environmental improvement in Bourne. The Agent will be the primary contact between the Commission and members of the public and will serve as ambassador for the Commission's regulations, policies and decisions. Strong opinions may be encountered in the field or at public meetings.


Desired Qualifications:

Candidates should have a Bachelor's Degree with some environmental science background and a working knowledge of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and the permitting process. Candidates should have one year of employment experience in the field of wetland science.  Any equivalent combination of education and experience can be substituted for the above desired qualifications. A working knowledge of wetland delineation is desired. Applicants must have a valid Massachusetts driver's license and reliable transportation. 

Candidate must be a self-starter able to work independently and without direct supervision. Candidates must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines, read, research and interpret policy and effectively communicate complex instructions and information.
