WHAT:  Water From the Ground Up: A Hands-on Course on Ground Water and
Pollution

WHEN:  Wednesday mornings, 9:30-11:30 pm, October 17- November 14

WHERE:  Waquoit Bay Research Reserve Headquarters on Route 28 in East
Falmouth.

On October 17 participants will explore hands-on models to clarify basic
concepts behind water movement and pollution on Cape Cod. Gabrielle
Belfit, hydrologist with the Cape Cod Commission will be the guest
expert.

On October 24, earn about the progress of the Massachusetts Military
Reservation clean up through slides and maps. Doug Karson from the
Installation Restoration Program and Ben Gregson from the Impact Area
Ground Water Study will present this program.

On October 31, David DelPorto of the Center for Ecological Pollution
Prevention will cover proper maintainence of a typical Title V septiv
system. He'll also present a slide show on the many alternative septic
systems available including plant-based systems.

The last session on November 7 will be dedicated to a discussion on
community solutions. Part of the program will feature Patti Kellogg,
Basin Team Leader for the Cape and Islands who will inform attendees
about a Massachusetts Initiative to include local citizens in creating
action plans based watersheds.
