Greetings -

Below are two funding announcements that may be of interest . . .

WHOI Sea Grant

---------------

ECOLOGY AND OCEANOGRAPHY OF HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOMS (ECOHAB)
The purpose of this notice is to advise the public that the
participating agencies are soliciting individual research proposals of
up to 3 years duration, and depending on appropriations,
multi-disciplinary regional studies for up to 5 years duration for the
ECOHAB program. This program provides support for research on algal
species whose populations may cause or result in deleterious effects on
ecosystems and human health. Studies of the causes of such blooms,
their detection, effects, mitigation, and control in U.S. coastal waters
(including estuaries and Great Lakes) are solicited. This document
details the requirements for applications for research support that will
be considered by the Federal research partnership. Proposals are due
January 10, 2002, to the NOAA Coastal Ocean Program. For complete
details, visit http://es.epa.gov/ncerqa/rfa/02ecohab.html.

EAST ASIA AND PACIFIC ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVE (EAPEI)
The Department of State (DOS) is seeking applications from
USAID-registered non governmental organizations (NGO's), U.S. federal
departments and agencies, international and regional organizations and
universities in the United States actively engaged in activities
consistent with the objectives of the EAPEI. This year, the EAP/EI has
requested $4 million to allocate to environmental projects in the
region, with emphasis on Indonesia and the Philippines. From past
experience, NOAA has had greater success with projects that were able to
establish a clear policy link, secured support from USAID missions and
U.S. embassies overseas, and had beneficial impact on the
decision-making process. Applications are being accepted through
November 16, 2001, by USAID. For complete details, visit
http://eapei.home.att.net/Plans/EAPEI2002RFA0903.htm.
