Key information for applicants
These job postings are only open for 7 days and postings will close when we have received 150-250 applications, depending on the position, which may be sooner than the closing date! These positions will also be cross-listed with other NMFS Offices. Please check the NOAA IRA jobs website<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.fisheries.noaa.gov%2Fnational%2Fcareers-more%2Fnoaa-fisheries-hiring-positions-available-support-inflation-reduction-act&data=05%7C02%7CJpjobs%40whoi.edu%7C12d3405f08fb431dcc2a08dc265aae48%7Cd44c5cc6d18c46cc8abd4fdf5b6e5944%7C0%7C0%7C638427418134053611%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=axoSHezXdJ20DAccewyjdc%2FzJvy11Ya%2Bfq7IO96OHi8%3D&reserved=0> often!
While a cover letter is not required, it is highly recommended -- it's a great opportunity to clearly state which position(s) you are interested in and explain why you are a great fit for the position(s). It's also a great spot to clarify your duty stations (e.g., Seattle and/or Newport). Please make sure you are also really clear with your coursework and make sure it's abundantly obvious that relevant courses count towards your educational requirements. Copy/paste and link from the Course Catalog if you can find it! Ensure you attach transcripts that show you meet the educational requirement for the position.
To ensure your resume receives consideration, we highly recommend using the USAJobs resume builder to ensure all required elements are in your resume. However, if you prefer to use your own format, please ensure all of the below information is included, if not, you will be disqualified:
* Job Title (including job series and grade, if federal)
* Descriptions of duties/work performed (include duties that detail you meet the specialized experience listed in the announcement)
* Starting and ending dates for each position (month AND year)
* Hours worked per week and/or full-time or part-time. If identifying as part-time you must state the number of hours per week. (NOTE: A full-time work schedule requires most employees to work 33-40 hours during the work week. A part-time schedule requires an employee to work less than full-time, but for a specific number of hours (usually 16-32 hours per administrative work week) on a prearranged scheduled tour of duty.)
* Your salary information (I know, it is counterintuitive but it will help you in the long run!)
Also, please be aware that hiring managers may pull additional candidates off of the list of qualified candidates (also known as the "cert" ) if there are additional positions available. For example, imagine someone applies to a stock assessment (ZP-0482-3) Fish Biologist position in Seattle and makes the "cert", but they are not the top choice for the stock assessment position. A hiring manager with a position with the same grade (ZP-0482-3) and location (Seattle) is able to request to see the stock assessment "cert". If they see that the candidate might be a good fit for an ecosystem modeling (ZP-0482-3) Fish Biologist position in Seattle, they can invite them for an interview.
