We have a postdoc opening in our lab studying the ecophysiology of soil
microbes at the University of Arizona.
We have a rather large culture collection (~1000 isolates) of soil
microbes from surface and subsurface soils, some of which come from
novel lineages and many of which are extremely oligotrophic. We are
looking for folks to work with these strains, and possibly isolate new
strains to answer some basic questions about what they are doing, their
evolution, and how their processes are regulated. This will likely
involve preparing isolates for genome sequencing, transcriptomes,
metabolomes, and analyzing the resulting data and of course publishing
papers about it. We would like to work up TnSeq functional genomics
approaches in some of the isolates as well, so if you have students that
have TnSeq experience, this might be a good opportunity.
There is substantial flexibility in the exact design of the postdoc
project and we have at least one paper that can be put together
relatively quickly from the data we already have.

Please forward to students or colleagues that might be interested in
this opportunity and encourage them to contact me for more information.
Sincerely,
Paul Carini
