1. SWMP Coordinator

  * Organization: The Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve

  * Description: The Reserve's SWMP Coordinator will primarily manage
    and provide lead oversight for the National Estuarine Research
    Reserve's System-Wide Monitoring Program (SWMP) including water
    quality and meteorological components, and others as they develop.
    This includes collecting and organizing environmental data,
    organizing data documentation and carrying out Quality
    Assurance/Quality Control, providing the data to the NERR System's
    Central Data Management Office, and summarizing the data for Reserve
    education staff, researchers, and the public. The SWMP Coordinator
    collects, compiles, analyses, and reports on water quality trends
    and plans monitoring projects and will engage in the community of
    practice nationwide around using R for SWMP data analysis. This
    position also assists in tracking research conducted in the St.
    Louis River estuary. The SWMP Coordinator will be supervised by the
    Reserve Manager and work extensively with the Reserve's Research
    Coordinator as well as other staff.

3. Marine Explorers Summer Camp Counselor

  * Organization: The Nature Conservancy

  * Description: The Director, reporting to the North America Oceans and
    Coasts Director and a member of the Ocean and Coasts policy and
    practice team, serves as the principle contact to government
    agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations, industry
    and the academic community. S/he may play a leading role in donor
    identification, cultivation and stewardship for the program. The
    Director disseminates best practices, provides training and analyses
    to best implement organizational measures of success, and identifies
    key partnerships.   The Director advances the Conservancy as a major
    conservation partner in the fisheries sector, defines conservation
    priorities in the area of responsibility, and alongside Government
    Relations staff, plays a leading role in managing major public
    agency and elected official relationships, and plays a leading role
    in public and private fundraising programs of the program.  S/he
    works with individuals from across the organization, without direct
    supervisory authority, to implement conservation efforts toward a
    shared agenda and strategy.  S/he builds strategic, scientific and
    technical capacity in the field, develops key partnerships with
    public and private organizations in order to identify and resolve
    technical issues and to widely communicate solutions and best
    practices, and develops and/or promulgates innovative scientific
    methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks to address the natural and
    social system needs.

15. 2017-2018 AMS Congressional Science Fellowship

  * Organization: The American Meteorological Society
  * Location: Washington, DC
  * Description: The American Meteorological Society (AMS) seeks
    candidates with backgrounds in the Earth sciences for the 2017-2018
    AMS Congressional Science Fellowship. Fellows participate in the
    legislative process by joining a Congressional office in the United
    States Senate or House of Representatives. Typical duties include
    developing legislation, negotiating legislative compromises, writing
    speeches and briefing memos, meeting with constituents, and
    conducting background research. The AMS Congressional Science Fellow
    will join more than 200 AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellows
    to help shape federal policy.
    Fellows must be US citizens and must complete all requirements for
    their Ph.D. prior to the start of the fellowship year, which runs
    from September 1, 2017 through August 31, 2018. Support includes a
    stipend ($63,000), and assistance to cover moving, travel, and
    health care expenses.
