ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR

General Area: Coastal Hydrology - Assistant Professor
This faculty position will focus on the dynamics of surface water and  
ground water in coastal ecosystems.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in a science field. Preferred  
Qualifications: Ph.D. in oceanography, coastal or environmental  
sciences, civil/water resources engineering or related field;

General Area: Marine Microbial Ecology - Assistant Professor
This faculty position will focus on the interactions and functions of  
microorganisms in marine environments, including coastal ecosystems.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in science field. Preferred  
Qualifications: Ph.D. in biological sciences, biochemistry, ecology,

General Area: Wetland Studies - Assistant/Associate/Full
This faculty position will teach courses in aquatic/wetland soil  
biogeochemistry that may include redox reactions, elemental cycling of  
trace metals, biogeochemistry of C, N, and/or S, and gaseous exchange;  
will also conduct research relevant to wetland science and restoration  
and the sustainable management of coastal ecosystems. Dependent upon  
the qualifications and credentials of the selected candidate, the  
incumbent may also be awarded the Shell Oil Endowed Chair in  
Oceanography/Wetland studies.

Required Qualifications: Ph. D. in biogeochemistry, ecology,  
oceanography or related fields.

Duties of the positions include developing and maintaining a rigorous,  
externally-funded research program in the related area of discipline;  
teaching courses in relevant area of specialty; collaborating in  
multidisciplinary research projects; mentoring graduate students;  
providing service and advice to state and federal agencies and the  
university as necessary.

Louisiana boasts 40 percent of the nation's coastal wetlands but  
experiences 80 percent of the country's wetland loss. LSU is a land,  
sea, and space grant institution designated a major research  
university with a Carnegie Classification: Research Active/Very High  
serving more than 31,500 students.

The Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences has strong programs  
in wetland ecology, wetland biogeochemistry, coastal fisheries,  
biophysical modeling as well as biological, physical, chemical, and  
geological oceanography. The LSU campus is bordered on the west by the  
Mississippi River, has access to 400 miles of coastline, and easy  
access to the Mississippi River Delta. LSU/DOCS is situated in a prime  
location for studying coastal biogeochemistry and ecology, the  
Mississippi River Delta, and key marine and coastal environmental  
issues. DOCS is housed in the Energy, Coast, & Environment Building  
that features 231 offices, 81 state-of-the-art research laboratories,  
a 200 seat auditorium, and multiple conference facilities. A machine  
shop, with a fleet of small boats and vehicles, is available along  
with access to larger oceanographic ships and coastal laboratory  
facilities through the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium.
