The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund (MbZSCF), in
collaboration with the CMS Dugong MoU Secretariat, will receive funding
from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for an exciting and ambitious
international project on the conservation of dugongs and their seagrass
habitats. The Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project aims to enhance
the conservation of dugongs and the seagrass ecosystems which support
them in eight countries in the Indo-Pacific region, namely Indonesia,
Madagascar, Malaysia, Mozambique, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Timor
Leste and Vanuatu.
We are seeking a Project Coordinator to lead a Project Coordination Team
(PCT) responsible for supporting Project Partners to implement the
Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project at the national level. The PCT
consists of a Project Coordinator, Regional Manager (based in Malaysia),
Project Associate, Communications Manager and Financial Manager.
The successful candidate will be an energetic, dynamic, resourceful and
experienced conservation practitioner with experience of managing GEF –
UNEP projects and associated reporting requirements, or the proven
potential to do so. We are keen to receive applications from passionate

make a difference to dugongs, their habitats and the livelihoods of the
people who interact with them, by supporting community led actions for

Cumbria Wildlife Trust, the Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester
and North Merseyside and North Western Inshore Fisheries and
Conservation Authority (NWIFCA) have four Trainee Marine and Coastal
Conservation Officer skills training placements available through the
Heritage Lottery Fund’s Skills for the Future project. This intake of
trainees for the Marine and Coastal Heritage Programme is designed to
give recent graduates the opportunity to gain the foundation skills and
practical experience that are necessary for those working in marine and
coastal conservation, with particular emphasis on public engagement with
marine conservation issues. The programme is aimed at highly motivated
individuals with an interest in marine conservation and an enthusiasm to
gain the skills required for employment within the marine conservation
sector.
The scheme offers a combination of ‘on-the-job’ professional experience
and structured training that is linked to a variety of work areas,
including species identification, wildlife habitat survey, habitat
management and heritage interpretation and education, plus important
generic work skills such as volunteer management, marketing and computer
skills. Trainees are expected to attend specialist courses, maintain a
Personal Development Portfolio, and work towards gaining a variety of
relevant AQA (Assessment and Qualifications Alliance) unit awards.
Trainees will also be involved with a number of projects across the
Trusts including Living Seas North West and the Lancashire Sand Dunes
project, helping to develop and deliver educational materials for
schools and organising and running events for families and community groups.
