5. Regional Watershed Restoration Specialist, Maryland Sea Grant Extension

Maryland Sea Grant Extension program is looking to hire a new Regional
Watershed Restoration Specialist (RWRS) to be responsible for planning,
organizing, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational
programs focused on helping local and county governments and watershed
groups plan, develop implement and monitor projects and programs that
lead to a quantifiable reduction in nonpoint sources of pollution as
outlined in Watershed Implementation Plans developed under the
Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load.
The RWRS’s program will be a major component of the Watershed Assistance
Collaborative, a partnership of the Department of Natural Resource’s
Chesapeake and Coastal Service, the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s Resources

Education Consortium (CWSEC). The Assistant will also lead various
educational programs focused on the importance of regional rivers
through the Waccamaw RIVERKEEPERÒProgram.
CWSEC Responsibilities: Development and presentation of stormwater and
watershed education programs and workshops to various age groups
including in-class presentations and field workshops. Coordination and
implementation of technical workshops, demonstrations, installations,
and meetings. Creation of outreach materials, including monthly
newsletter, and management of displays at festivals and conferences.
Maintenance of website content, calendar, and activity database.
Assistance to undergraduate intern(s) with storm drain marking and rain
garden assessment programs.

Riverkeeper Responsibilities: Development and presentation of river and
watershed related education programming for the public. Organization and
supervision of volunteers and associated activities. Coordination and

filing, etc. Assistance with river cleanup events including kayaking or
driving a small boat and with grant writing and review.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required with major in science,
natural resources or education preferred. Teaching experience and
knowledge on stormwater, watersheds and rivers strongly preferred.

Post-Doc Research Opportunity: Integrating Multiple Stressor Effects on
Coastal Marine Resources
A postdoctoral research project training opportunity is currently
available at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA), Office of
Research and Development, National Health and Environmental Effects
Research Laboratory (NHEERL). The appointment will be served with the
Gulf Ecology Division (GED) in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
This project aims to determine how sediments and nutrients interact with
other environmental stressors to impact coastal marine resources, using
a site-specific approach. Addressing how sediments, nutrients and other
stressor inputs from watersheds impact coastal marine resources, the
main research problem is determining how these stressors interact to
adversely affect coast systems, including coral reefs. Under the
guidance of a mentor, the selected research participant may be involved
in the following activities:
*understanding how sediments, nutrients, and other stressors can
interact to affect coastal resources
*understanding the linkages between sediment and nutrient inputs into
watersheds and how they can cause downstream impacts to coastal systems
*determining safe levels and adverse effects thresholds of multiple
stressors on coastal systems, including reef building corals

2014.This scheme has 6-8 three-year postdoc fellowships across the
university.The Faculty of Science (in particular, Biological Sciences)

25. OUTREACH ASSOCIATE, For the Preserve Plum Island Coalition and Save
the Sound

The Preserve Plum Island Coalition and Save the Sound are seeking a part
time Outreach Associate for 8 months to join their efforts to protect
Plum Island (NY) from development.
The mission of the Preserve Plum Island Coalition (PPIC) includes the
following “to secure the permanent protection of the significant natural
and cultural resources of Plum Island. The PPIC advocates for
comprehensive solutions that safeguard this national treasure; this
includes dedicating Plum Island's undeveloped acreage, approximately 80%
of the island, as a National Wildlife Refuge, or creating a preserve
providing equivalent protection in perpetuity.” Save the Sound, a
regional program of Connecticut Fund for the Environment, is an
environmental non-profit that works to protect and improve the land, air
and water of Connecticut and Long Island Sound using legal and
scientific expertise and bringing people together to achieve results
that benefit our environment for current and future generations.
The Plum Island Outreach Associate will work primarily out of Southold,
NY in the offices of PPIC member The Group for the East End, though some
travel to shoreline communities in Connecticut or other western Long
Island or NYC locations for events or meetings may be required.

accepting applications for the Fall 2014 Marine Conservation Internship.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP:
REEF’s Marine Conservation Internship provides an in-depth look into
REEF's Volunteer Fish Survey Project and Invasive Lionfish
Program. Geared towards college-age individuals, the internship provides
an array of diverse experiences including scientific diving, outreach
and education, data collection and management, non-profit operations,
and public speaking. During the four-month long internship, you will
have many opportunities to dive and volunteer with partner organizations
