http://www.psmfc.org/psmfc-info/careers/career-search
Position/Project Specifics:
The Pacific Marine and Estuarine Fish Habitat Partnership (PMEP) and its
assessment partners (Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission,
National Marine Fisheries Service, The Nature Conservancy, and National
Fish Habitat Board) are conducting habitat assessments for fish that use
estuaries and nearshore environments on the Pacific Coast. These
assessments require the collection of data that come from various fish
sampling and habitat monitoring programs, which have been collected by a
diverse group of scientists from a variety of organizations, including
governments, tribes, consultants, nonprofits, independent investigators,
and universities. Data on impacts to fish habitat in the estuary and
nearshore will also need to be collected.
The PMEP seeks the services of a self-directed Data Management
Specialist to contact individuals, discuss the purpose of the
assessments and impact information and how the compilation of data may
benefit these scientists, discuss and obtain their datasets, and assist
in the compilation and geo-referencing of those datasets relevant to
fish and habitat sampling. The position will be full-time (40
hours/week) for 12+ months, and pay will be commensurate with

facilitating fieldwork in Belo sur Mer, Morondava, and Ambaro-Ambanja
Bay. The work should culminate in a written feasibility assessment
including a full stakeholder and network analysis, brief description of
the fishery supply chains and actors, a critical evaluation of potential
for shrimp PES schemes, a concise description of strategies implemented
in moving towards the development of these schemes in Madagascar, and a
set of recommendations and next steps (all reports in French, and in

13. Postdoc, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of San Diego
La Jolla, California
“Seismic Analysis of the Ross Ice Shelf, Antarctica”
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography seeks applicants for a
postdoctoral research position investigating physical properties of the
Ross Ice Shelf with broadband seismic array data. The ideal starting
date of the position is on or before 1 September 2014 and is negotiable.
The position is for one year with possible renewal for a second year

propagation characteristics of signals forced by ocean swell and
infra-gravity (IG) wave impacts at the shelf front. Areas of
investigation may include and are not limited to: the dynamic elastic
and mechanical response of the RIS to oceanic forcings; signal
propagation from the shelf front through the RIS to the grounding zone;
and signal excitation at the base of the ice shelf by IG waves
penetrating the sub-shelf water cavity.
Proficiency in Matlab, or a suitable substitute, and an understanding of
principles of seismic wave propagation and microseism characteristics
are required. Previous experience in seismic array processing and ice
rheology is highly desirable.
