spokesperson, and able to articulate a compelling vision for

projects, threats and strategies. The ability to develop strong working 
relationships with a staff and partners who are widely distributed in a 
variety of physical locations is critical.

The Director has seven direct reports, including leads for conservation, 
philanthropy, external affairs, operations, and marketing in the 
region.  S/he approves and manages budgets and sets priorities which 
dictate private and public fundraising goals.  The Director raises 
program funds from public and private sources in the United States, 
Europe, and from within the region.  He/she supports philanthropy, 
resources and external affairs staff in the cultivation and direct 
solicitation of donors (private, bilateral and multilateral government)

Supervise, coordinate, and administer activities of the project under 
supervision of the WCS Nicaragua Sea Turtle Conservation Project

Supervisor. Assist in hawksbill project start-up activities (Hiring 
workshop, training in field procedures, setting up field camp, etc). 
Work with local field staff to ensure correct data collection, 
coordinate and supervise daily activities of local staff conducting 
fieldwork in the Pearl Cays, weekly team switches and assist with 
nocturnal beach work during peak nesting. Pay project staff and keep 
track of project expenses; maintain databases; summarize data; write 
project weekly radio reports, periodic progress reports and final report 
(Spanish & English), and proposals; and assist in boat and motor 
maintenance. Assist in maintaining contact with personnel from local, 
regional and national institutions, including universities and 
government. Assist with other sea turtle program activities (i.e. 
environmental education within the local schools, environmental events 
in coordination with the municipality, etc), as time permits. There is 
also potential for conducting future research or employment with the WCS

The Marine Resources Research Institute (MRRI), which is located in 
Charleston, South Carolina and is part of the South Carolina Department 
of Natural Resources (SCDNR), has an Assistant Marine Scientist position 
available for an individual with broad experience in marine community 
ecology.  This position involves conducting research on environmental 
perturbations (anthropogenic and natural) in estuarine and marine 
environments.  This includes primarily applied research to assess the 
physical environment and biological communities.  Specific duties 
include field sampling, biological (macrobenthic and nekton) community 
analyses, water quality monitoring, sediment analyses, report and 
manuscript writing, managing budgets and personnel, and grant and 
contract development.

This position requires a Ph.D. in marine science or related field, 
experience in community ecology, a strong background in study design and 
statistical procedures, ability to perform field work in inclement 
weather, demonstrated strong technical writing skills, and good 
organizational and managerial skills.  This position is currently fully 
funded for one year at a starting salary of approximately $46,000 with

various ecological assessment projects for a diverse client base of 
primarily local, state and federal agencies out of its Columbia, MD 
office. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting field work 
in a variety of disciplines including sampling methods used for marine 
and estuarine research, stream assessments, storm water sampling, 
fisheries science or related field.  In particular, we are seeking an 
individual with experience in small vessel operations to serve as boat 
operator for several long-term benthic, water quality, and fisheries 
assessment projects.  Biological sample processing skills are also being 
sought. Additional experience in data analysis and reporting (using 
MSWord, Excel, Access, GIS, etc.) is desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to support or manage field 
studies under the supervision of Versar Project Managers and Senior 
Scientists.  Types of field work include the collection of freshwater 
and marine benthic, fisheries, and habitat data. Stormwater sampling 
involves collecting water quality samples and streamflow data, operating 
automated sampling equipment, maintaining databases and field logs, and 
tracking samples. Field work occurs in the Mid-Atlantic region of the 
U.S. and may require overnight trips or evening/weekend work when

Advocacy Center Director, the program assistant will not only perform 
regular administrative duties but will also actively participate in

25. Environmental Monitoring Intern, Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies

Provincetown, MA

Intern will assist with field sampling and laboratory analysis for the 
Provincetown beach monitoring project looking at the environmental 
impacts of beach raking. As part of this project, which is in its third 
season, the intern will collect and filter porewater, process wrack 
samples, and plate bacteria samples from beach sand. This project takes 
place on Monday and Tuesday and is tidally based so you must be 
available for the full day and willing to work around the tidal schedule 
which will be given to you at the beginning of the season. There may 
also be possibilities for the intern to participate in water quality 
sampling both on and off shore.
