Collaborative Post-Doctoral Research Associate with expertise in social
or economic valuation to join Dr. Joel Hoffman in an ongoing research
project to model community benefits from sediment remediation and

The role of the field scientist involves planning, coordinating and
participating in all research and community outreach activities carried
out on site, under the management and guidance of the Expedition

teaching and providing assistance to our volunteers during the science

14. FIELDWORK ASSISTANT, University of Aberdeen Lighthouse Field Station

We are seeking a hardworking, enthusiastic fieldworker who is looking to
develop and broaden their research experience. You will have the
opportunity to gain valuable experience supporting our studies of marine
top predator ecology in the Moray Firth, north east Scotland during a 5
month summer contract, from May to September 2014. Your primary
responsibility will be to assist with fieldwork, data input and image
processing for our long-term boat-based bottlenose dolphin
photo-identification project.During this busy fieldwork season there
will also be scope for you to assist in our other research projects
including passive acoustic monitoring, northern fulmar and harbour seal
ecology.
You must have experience of conducting boat-based marine field research
on mammals or birds and provide evidence of excellent organisational
skills, an attention to detail, and the ability to make clear and
accurate field notes. You should also be competent in computer-based
data and image handling, and have good communication skills with both
the public and other researchers. Knowledge of photo-identification
techniques, qualified boat handling and good photographic skills using
an SLR camera is an advantage but not essential.Patience and a
willingness to work the long and flexible hours required to carry out
weather dependent boat-based fieldwork are essential requirements.

15. Policy Analyst Intern, IFAW

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) is looking for a policy
analyst intern ready to start this spring in their Washington DC office.
The position is for a one-year term, starting April 2014, in IFAW’s
office in Dupont Circle. The policy analyst intern will be responsible
for a variety of assignments including research, drafting letters and
fact sheets, grassroots outreach, and direct contact with federal and
state legislative offices and regulatory agencies on issues pertinent to
the IFAW mission. Current campaigns that the DC office is working on
include: Whaling and ocean noise; the ivory market and the elephant
poaching crisis; policies to protect big cats, including the African
lion; and international policies to protect polar
bears. Responsibilities will also include administrative support –
including answering phones, filing, and other duties as assigned. Ideal
candidates will have an interest in wildlife policy and animal
protection and a willingness to learn about how they can make a
difference for animals through education, outreach and policy. Many of
our past policy analysts were pursuing (or had recently completed) a
master’s or law degree when they began their internship at IFAW. This
is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in animal welfare,
wildlife conservation, and government policy, though no specific
academic major is required of applicants.
The intern position is paid, and although the schedule may be flexible,
