Technical Advisor on Coastal Fisheries, Papua New Guinea, Wildlife 
Conservation Society

Kavieng, New Ireland Province, PNG

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) seeks a Technical Advisor to 
lead its coastal fisheries management efforts in Papua New Guinea. WCS 
focuses on implementing community-based and scientifically sound 
conservation strategies to improve the management of coastal marine 
ecosystems, with a particular emphasis on coral reefs and mangroves. Our 
marine operations which are based in Kavieng, New Ireland Province, is a 
component of the larger PNG Country Program based in Goroka, Eastern 
Highlands Province. The Kavieng staff consists of a small team of local 
and international field biologists, village engagement specialists, and 
administrative staff. The marine program primarily: i) works closely 
with men and women of local communities to protect coastal ecosystems 
and ecosystem integrity, ii) promotes sustainable small-scale fisheries, 
iii) provides technical assistance to communities and local government 
for climate change adaptation and ecosystem-based management, and iv) 
provides training and capacity building in marine conservation issues 
and techniques, small-scale fisheries management, and working with 
communities.

This position will be largely based in Kavieng, with some time spent 
living and working at remote field locations in New Ireland and Manus 
provinces with basic village conditions, and attending meetings in 
Goroka, Port Moresby and internationally. The WCS PNG Technical Advisor 
position is a full-time position with benefits.
