number of marine species for the International Union for Conservation of
Nature Red List of Threatened Species through a collaborative initiative
with the IUCN Species Program. The position involves background
research, organizing and conducting international workshops and

and scientific papers, and assisting teaching courses in Ichthyology and
Marine Conservation Biology. Applicants must have a PhD in Biology,

2. Senior Associate, Northeast Forage Fish Conservation Campaign, Pew

Conserving abundant populations of forage fish species is necessary to
ensure the long-term health and productivity of marine ecosystems.
Accordingly, the campaign will promote a precautionary, ecosystem-based
approach to the management of northeastern U.S. forage species. The
Senior Policy Associate will conduct technical and policy research and
analysis to support the Northeast forage fish conservation work of Pew
and help to communicate the results to the general public, fishery
stakeholders and policymakers by drafting testimony, correspondence,
policy statements, white papers, and reports. The Senior Associate will
engage with policy-makers and other stakeholders and represent Pew at
the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, Atlantic States Marine

Executive Director Position
_Definition_: Manages research studies and general operations at PSI.
Participates at various levels in study design, coordination,
evaluation, and reporting; and acts as the designated spokesperson.
_General Description_: A grant-funded full-time position, based in
Olympia, Washington. Approximately 75% of the work is direct project
billable, with the remainder tasked to general administration. Pay scale
determined by experience plus a modest benefits package (vacation and

_Typical Work_
- Assist Institute staff in aspects of research studies (projects), such
as experimental design, literature review, budgeting, proposal writing,
data accumulation, field work, and analysis of data, report writing,

The IMMS Research Internship Program is designed as a way for students
interested in a career in marine science to gain valuable research
experience in a real-world setting. Interns will participate with
multiple projects involving bottlenose dolphins, sea turtles and
diamondback terrapins. As an intern, you will be trained in all aspects
of dolphin photo-id research, sea turtle satellite tracking, and other
current research projects at IMMS. Interns will also participate in
other operations at IMMS including stranding response, education, and
animal care. Our goal is to give Interns a well-rounded experience in a
variety of areas while providing expert training and experience in
marine science research.
Principle Duties include: data entry, searching and cataloging journal
articles, learning all research protocols, cropping and sorting photo-id
fin images, learning to use photo-id programs such as Darwin (fin
matching software), and FinBase (Microsoft Access), boat based field
research (21? and 31? boats), and learn how to use ArcGIS.
*Secondary Duties involve: Assisting with animal care staff, attending
marine mammal necropsies, responding to marine mammal and sea turtle
strandings, and assisting with educational tours.
*Field days: Interns must be able to spend many hours on the water and
on shore in sometimes extreme seasonal conditions. Seasonal temperatures
range from over 100 ?F in summer to 30 ?F in winter. Field days
typically exceed eight hours and occur at least two or three times a week.

to assist with the upcoming August Rapid Assessment Survey (RAS) for
marine invasive species and to support efforts of the CZM Aquatic
Invasive Species Program <http://www.mass.gov/czm/invasives/index.htm>.
The RAS, coordinated by CZM and the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology's Sea Grant program, utilizes a team of taxonomic experts to
survey marine species at floating docks and piers across New England.
The surveys have occurred roughly every three years since 2000 and
provide an excellent opportunity to discover new marine invaders. See

MB). This is a paid, part-time position located primarily in Boston with
some fieldwork and travel (average 15 hours a week, with one full-time
week in August during the survey). The anticipated start date is July 7
with an end date of January 4, 2014. Experience with fieldwork and
knowledge of the marine species of the northwest Atlantic is preferred.
Also, applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree program.
