Canada Research Chair in Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management,
Dalhousie University

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Application Deadline has been extended to 15 May 2013

The Marine Affairs Program at Dalhousie University invites applications
for a Canada Research Chair Tier 2 in Integrated Coastal and Ocean
Management. It is anticipated that the appointment will be tenure-stream
and made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Details about
the CRC program are available at: http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/
<https://access.iucn.org/,DanaInfo=www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca+>.

The concept of Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management (ICOM), codified
at the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992, addresses the pressures being placed
upon the world's most productive and fragile littoral zones. It responds
to the growing societal demands to develop solutions that maximize the
economic opportunities available from coastal ecosystems while
minimizing the conflicts that arise due to the multiple array of users
and uses of these resources. With unprecedented changes arising from
global warming in Canada’s Arctic, the need to focus attention on
bridging the significant gap between natural and social scientific
knowledge in this northern coastal environment becomes increasingly urgent.

The Marine Affairs Program is a well established internationally
recognized interdisciplinary graduate program offering the Master of
Marine Management degree. The program involves interaction and
coordination with five different Faculties at Dalhousie that participate
in the delivery of all aspects of the Marine Affairs Program. Students
traditionally enrolled in this program are a mixture of those emerging
from undergraduate studies and middle managers on leave from
governments, non-governmental organizations or the private sector. The
Marine Affairs Program attracts national and international candidates,
with alumni employed, often in positions of considerable responsibility,
in over 52 countries worldwide. For more information see

Extension Agent I – III, FL Sea Grant

Key West, FL

Environmental stewardship, long-term economic development, and
responsible use of coastal and ocean resources are at the heart of the
Sea Grant mission. Extension has helped build a strong fishing industry
association that works cooperatively with researchers and policy-makers
in the Florida Keys. Commercial fisheries in Monroe County are facing
continuing challenges with waterfront redevelopment, changes in customer
base, limits on fishing activity, and the effects of hurricanes. The
programmatic vision for the agent in this position is to improve
co-management between regulatory agencies and the commercial fishing
industry to improve sustainability of both natural resources and the
fishing families and communities of the Florida Keys.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership
for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive
marine science program in cooperation with county and state extension
colleagues and local citizens. The agent will focus efforts especially
on educational programming for local fishing organizations, scientists
and county, state, and federal regulatory agencies for the purpose of
improving the co-management of marine resources by the various
stakeholders. This agent will also provide educational information to
individuals and businesses concerning marine uses, environmental
protection, climate change issues, and resource management. Extension
works closely with industry to address all issues impacting their
productivity. Extension provides regular educational presentations at
industry meetings, assists in community development via the seafood
festival, and participates/facilitates both fisheries research and
management activities to empower local fishermen to participate in
advancing their industry.
