These prestigious*postdoctoral fellowships*are designed to enable 
exceptionally talented early career researchers to develop their 
research, teaching and policy engagement experience sufficiently to make 
them very strong candidates for academic positions by the end of their 
tenure. These fellowships will include:

 1. Dedicated time for pursuing an independent research project (_a
    brief research proposal is required as part of the application_);
 2. Working as part of STEaPP’s foundational academic team to develop
    the Department’s collaborative research activities;
 3. Contributing to STEaPP’s teaching activities;/and/
 4. Helping develop the policy engagement profile of STEaPP and the
    related policy engagement and decision support institute.

Fully Funded Ocean Affairs Research Fellowship

We are seeking your assistance in circulating information on the United 
Nations – the Nippon Foundation of Japan Fellowship Programme, a fully 
funded research Fellowship for developing State ocean professionals. The 
main objective of the Fellowship is to provide advanced education and 
training in the field of ocean affairs and the law of the sea, and 
related disciplines, to government officials and other mid-level 
professionals from developing States. We are pleased to note that during 
the last seven years, 70 awards have been made to nationals of 55 States.

Successful candidates will undertake their research/studies in two 
back-to-back phases: the first, lasting six months, with a participating 
academic host institution; and the second, lasting three months, with 
the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS), UN 
Office of Legal Affairs, or an appropriate participating host 
institution. The Fellowship application deadline is 15 September 2011, 
and candidates should forward their applications directly to DOALOS. 
Successful candidates will be expected to begin their placements early 
in 2012.
