Coastal Storms Outreach Coordinator, Minnesota Sea Grant

the National Weather Service, the NOAA Coastal Service Center and 
Coastal Storms Programs, and other partner agencies and organizations to 
assess the needs and appropriate program delivery methods for the target 
audiences related to weather, beach, and water safety forecasts and 
stormwater issues. Expand rip current awareness, forecasts, and delivery 
mechanisms. Expand access to severe storm warnings and preparedness. 
Help market the availability of all products and tools that are 
developed to appropriate audiences. Compile best management practices 
and conduct train-the-trainer workshops. Assist NOAA Great Lakes 
Restoration Initiative project connection to Great Lakes communities. 
Conduct formative, summative, and confirmative evaluations to improve 
products and to document project impacts and accomplishments. Other

NATURAL RESOURCE SCIENTIST 3 - COASTAL / AQUATIC SCIENTIST, Washington DNR

This NRSci3 position, within the Aquatics Assessment and Monitoring Team 
(AAMT), provides scientific support to the Aquatics Division for the 
management of all state-owned aquatic lands. This position, under the 
AAMT supervisor, works as the lead scientific analyst, applying models 
and statistically evaluating data to assess aquatic ecological 
functions.  The scientist in this position works cooperatively with 
other Division science and policy staff to ensure that the state’s 
aquatic resources are managed in a sustainable manner, based on sound 
science and in consideration of the public’s interest.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• Analyze hydrographic and benthic survey data.  Focus will be on change 
analysis of bathymetric and submerged aquatic vegetation data in 
before-after-control-impact studies for nearshore and bedlands habitats.
• Develop and manage effectiveness monitoring database to access and 
analyze field sampled data and data from deployed sensors.
• Apply process- based, empirical, mechanistic and statistical models 
for evaluating ecological functions, of coastal, estuarine and shoreland 
systems.
• Provide input data for decision support tools developed to assess how 
management decisions affect ecosystem functions.
• Develop maps, images and presentations for reporting and publishing 
results.
• Apply for grant funding to supplement data collection and research

The Ramsar Secretariat provides scientific, technical and policy advice 
to the Contracting Parties to the Convention including supporting and 
facilitating the work of the Scientific and Technical Review Panel 
(STRP), the Convention’s subsidiary body charged with preparing 
scientific and technical reports, reviews, advice and guidelines to 
support implementation of the Convention.

The role of the Scientific and Technical Support Officer is to enhance 
the Secretariat’s capacity to provide technical support to the work of 
the STRP, and to provide advice on other scientific matters. This post 
is designed to provide this capacity and support over the period of the 
establishment of the new STRP and its development and implementation of 
its 2013-2015 work plan. Following its first full meeting (STRP17) in 
February 2013, the Panel will determine the type and pattern of support 
it needs during this cycle, and terms of reference for this support will 
be further reviewed in the light of the Panel’s decisions.

The STRP’s work is guided by its approved modus operandi (adjusted by 
Ramsar COP11 in Resolution XI.18) and its priority work themes for the 
2013-2015 period (affirmed by Contracting Parties in COP11 Resolution 
XI.17 include: communication, education and public awareness (CEPA); 
inventory, assessment and ecological indicators; Ramsar site designation 
and management; wetlands and ecosystem services; and Ramsar, wetlands 
and other sectors: human health, climate change, water resource 
management, agriculture and poverty eradication. The Convention’s 
upcoming review of the delivery, uptake and implementation of scientific 
and technical advice and guidance to the Convention (mandated by COP11 
Resolution XI.16) is also relevant to the future work of the STRP and to 
this post.

Project Manager, Coral Cay Conservation

This is a salaried position for an initial period of 1 year, possibly 
renewable for a further 1 year upon review and successful completion of 
year 1, based on the island of Koh Rong, Cambodia with extensive 
in-country travel. You may also be expected to attend regional 
conferences and symposia.

The successful candidate will be based in Cambodia, working closely with 
the Coral Cay Conservation (CCC) Head Office in London as well as in 
country project partners, including the Fisheries Administration (FiA) 
of the Royal Government of Cambodia, to develop and implement Cambodia’s 
first effectively managed Marine Protected Area around Koh Rong 
Island.This programme is supported through a two-year grant with further 
support from international and national NGOs and the FiA. We are seeking 
a Project Manager to organise and host workshops and training events, 
develop new partnerships and scout potential new donors in support of 
the project. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be developing 
and overseeing the ongoing scientific monitoring programme, including 
socio-economic surveys within the local communities on Koh Rong Island. 
The Project Manager will be helping to develop alternative livelihood 
programmes in support of local communities and leading the capacity 
building programmes which will include CCC’s SCUBA dive and marine 
scholarships.The successful candidate will also have to manage the 
programme budget and work closely with the CCC project staff and 
volunteers based on Koh Rong.

education preferred. Experience writing curriculum, goals, and 
objectives for academic/formal education programs, and familiarity with 
STEM pedagogy best practices are required.

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication and 
organizational skills are required.  Graduation from a four-year college 
or university with a degree in education or a closely related field is 
required.  A Master's degree in education or a closely related field is 
desirable. At least two - three years supervisory experience and a 
minimum of three years experience in a position related to education 
programs in a museum, zoo, or aquarium is required.

Ability to speak Spanish desirable, but not required.
