Fundraiser/Grant writer, SeaPlan
Boston, MA
SeaPlan is an independent not-for-profit organization working toward
vibrant economies sustained by
healthy oceans through advancing science-based, stakeholder informed
ocean management. Since
2006, SeaPlan has worked in partnership with government,
marine-dependent industry, the scientific
community, and conservation organizations to develop pragmatic solutions
to increasingly challenging
ocean planning and management decisions. Our current revenue streams are
primarily foundation
grants and fee-for-service. We are a team of six full time staff and
several subcontracted professional
service teams.
SeaPlan seeks a proven fundraiser to work with the Executive Director
and other senior staff to
diversify and grow the organization’s funding and revenue streams. We
will focus primarily on
foundations (family, corporate, and community) but will also include
related campaigns (large donor),

Assistant/Associate Professor: Cetacean Ecologist, Oregon State University
Newport, OR
This position conducts original research and integrates the University's
research and outreach education mission by: providing statewide,
national, and international expertise on marine mammals with an emphasis
on cetacean ecology; conducting programs on appropriate basic science,
conservation, wildlife management and natural resources issues; raising
funds for annual research objectives; and helping build an endowment to
assure the future success of the OSU marine mammal research and
education programs.
The major focus of this position is to discover and disseminate new
information through innovative research programs involving telemetry to
better understand cetacean biology and related conservation and
management issues (i.e. characterization of critical habitat, migration
and spatial aspects of population dynamics, foraging ecology, and
interactions with human activities) and thus contributing to the
development of responsible marine resource management practices. Because
cetaceans migrate over large ranges that cross political boundaries, are
subject to world-wide tourism and spatially overlap with human
industrial and recreational activities, much of this program's emphasis
is international. Conservation practices and habitat requirements are
multinational issues. Part of this program may involve the development
and application of new equipment, techniques, experimental designs and
analytical methods to study the biology of cetaceans. These activities
respond to needs identified through peer scientists, funding
solicitations, government agencies, NGOs, conferences, workshops, and/or
citizens.

Assistant/Associate Professor: Marine Mammal Behavioral Ecologist and
Sea Grant Extension Specialist, OSU
Newport, OR
The Marine Mammal Institute (MMI) and Oregon Sea Grant (OSG) contribute
to basic and applied research of marine mammals at the state, national
and international level, and to the broader impact of this research by
providing scientific advice to governmental managers, and through
outreach and engagement with stakeholders, including industry,
non-governmental organizations, and the public. This 12-month, full-time
faculty position, with 0.5 tenurable FTE, will support the activities of
MMI and OSG by developing a strong research program in marine mammal
science and by enhancing the impact of scientific research through
management advice, outreach and engagement with stakeholders and public
education. The position will be located at Hatfield Marine Science
Center (HMSC), with an academic appointment likely through the
Department of Fisheries and Wildlife in the College of Agricultural
Sciences, or other suitable academic department.
Specific responsibilities include: 1) establishing a nationally
recognized research program in behavioral or spatial ecology of marine
mammals, through extramural grants and contracts; 2) reaching out to and
engaging with the public and stakeholders on the conservation and
management of marine mammals; 3) working closely with federal, state,
and non-government organizations on issues relevant to the conservation
and management of marine mammals; and 4) advising upper level
undergraduate and graduate students on research related to marine mammal
biology and management.
Many of these programs and services will require collaboration with
others at OSU, as well as with members of other universities, government
agencies, industry, and/or non-government organizations. As many
populations of marine mammals are migratory or widely distributed, the
geographic scope of this position is expected to include issues along
the entire Pacific coast, although there is an expectation to give
priority to issues along to the Oregon coast and the Pacific Northwest.
