Postdoctoral Fellow to work on an NSF PIRE-funded project which will
focus on microbial community structure and diversity, biogeography,
genomics, microbial lipid and isotope signatures, and ecosystem-level
functioning in the largest hot spring complex in China, the Tengchong
Geothermal Field in Yunnan Province. The candidate should have a strong
interest in one or more of the following research topics: Integrating
rigorous statistical and community functional genomics approaches to
examine the relative importance of environmental factors and geographic
separation on microbial distribution and abundance; combining
high-resolution visualization tools, microbial energetics, and
functional genomics and metabolomics to understand biogeochemical
cycling of carbon and nitrogen.
Require: PhD in Microbiology or Geology; molecular microbiology
(pyrosequencing, metagenomics, etc) and cultivation skills; microbial
functional microarray analysis for identification and quantification of
genes important to carbon and nitrogen metabolism in hot springs.
Desire: isotope high resolution visualization tools such as CARD-FISH
and TEM; ratio mass spectrometry for identification and quantification
of metabolic metabolites and carbon and nitrogen isotope fractionations;
strong written and communication skills; enthusiasm for international
and interdisciplinary collaboration. This is a one-year position which
is renewable based on performance and continued funding.
