_Description_
The Department of Zoology atOregonStateUniversityinvites applications
for a full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month, fixed-term Professional Faculty
position, "PISCO Policy Program Coordinator".
The Coordinator will support the effective implementation of major
activities of PISCO (Partnership for Interdisciplinary Studies of
Coastal Oceans).
This scientific program focuses on marine ecology and oceanography in
coastal waters off the west coast of theUnited States. Scientists and
students are involved in the project at 4 lead universities [Univ of
California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), Univ of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC),
Stanford Univ, and Oregon State Univ (OSU)] and collaborating
institutions. PISCO was established to provide the interdisciplinary
knowledge and effective outreach to accelerate transfer of scientific
knowledge of coastal ecosystems to policy-makers and assist society in

Responsibilities include:_
Policy and outreach activities at statewide (Oregon), regional, and
federal levels. Major focal areas are climate change, marine reserves,
and ocean resources. In close consultation with lead Investigators and
the consortium-wide policy team, s/he will work on specific policy
processes in Oregon and at federal level, and be responsible for (a)
translating and summarizing scientific information and data specific to
these policy processes, (b) creating opportunities to improve how
science informs policy and management, (c) developing strategic
relationships between PISCO research groups and key policy making and
management entities.
Overall organization and strategic planning of PISCO policy and outreach
activities. S/he will work closely with other Coordinators and Principal
Investigators to ensure (a) strategic program development, (b)
coordination and integration of policy and outreach activities and (c)
effective communication of PISCO scientific research with management and
policy activities.
Educational support, to increase understanding about marine conservation
science among relevant citizens' groups, NGOs, industry groups, and the
general public. S/he also will engage with PISCO scientists and
collaborators on policy issues by staying current on marine issues and
contributing to educational activities such as PISCO communications
training, workshops, and university courses. The Coordinator will
participate in the publication of PISCO products, including scientific
papers, reports, white papers, brochures, and similar materials.
_Minimum/Required Qualifications_: A Master's Degree in Ecology, Marine
Biology, Conservation Science or a closely related field. Strong
scientific background as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed
journals.
_Preferred Qualifications_: PhD and considerable post-graduate
experience. Ability to work successfully toward the achievement goals
and objectives with a wide variety of constituents, such as scientists,
managers, funders, and decision-makers.
Strong organizational, writing, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Attention to details, demonstrates decision-making abilities and can
coordinate group projects in accordance to set targets/deadlines.
Recent experience at the state and federal legislative and policy levels
for ocean issues working with large groups, demonstrated experience in
communicating scientific information to diverse audiences, and
demonstrated ability to understand, evaluate and communicate scientific
concepts.
Demonstrated ability to formulate and implement plans and programs,
develop written materials, facilitate one-on-one or group meetings and
coordinate multiple priorities/projects to achieve program goals and
objectives.
Relevant management experience on policy formulation, strategic
planning, administrative budget and program development.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
