Dear Colleagues,
As the Fall AGU abstract deadline draws near, we'd like to remind you of
the session: Earth and Space Science Data Facilities in a Big Data
World. We are excited to have the following speakers, and hope you'll
consider contributing:

Ruth Duerr (National Snow and Ice Data Center)
Kerstin Lehnert (Integrated Earth Data Applications)
Stefano Nativi (National Research Council, Institute for Atmospheric
Pollution)
Steven Petersen (National Environmental Satellite Data and Information
Services)

Session ID# 3699
Session Description:
For years, Earth and space science data facilities around the world have
been managing digital data assets and making the information available
to their designated communities. These facilities, defined loosely as
organizations whose primary mission includes the receipt and
dissemination of digital data, have adapted themselves to manage the
changing data-driven demands and meet the evolving requirements of their
users. These challenges can be more effectively met in today's data
rich, yet often budget-limited world through sharing of experiences,
knowledge, and solutions. This session solicits abstract submissions
from Earth and space science data facilities on how they have approached
the Big Data challenges of volume, velocity, veracity, and variety; from
users on their requirements for and experiences with data facilities;
and from the entire community on their actionable thoughts and
recommendations on how to effectively manage digital assets for current
and future generations.

Session Conveners:
Kenneth Casey (NOAA/NESDIS/NODC)
Danie Kinakde (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
Veronica Guidetti ( European Space Agency)
