Title: The Semantic Web and Linked Open Data



About the speaker:

Peter DeVries is an Entomology Ph.D. dissertator in Professor Dan Young's lab in the area of Biodiversity informatics. He works on developing methods for integrating large distributed data sets, and computer-aided species identification. As part of this work, he has developed the GeoSpecies Knowledge Base, and TaxonConcept Knowledge Base, which are semantic web knowledge bases following Linked Open Data standards and part of the Linked Open Data Cloud. He is currently working at the Marine Biology Laboratory in Woods Hole as part of the Encyclopedia of Life project.
