Adapting an Evolutionary Model for Host-Microbe Interactions Studies
Thursday, February 3 at noon
Dr. Kat Milligan-McClellan
Assistant professor, University of Connecticut, Dept of Molecular and Cell Biology
Host-microbe interactions can affect both the host and microbes. Dr. Milligan-McClellan adapted the evolutionary model organism, threespine stickleback fish, to examine the role the host genetic background plays in selecting for different members of the microbiota and the ability of the microbiota to stimulate development of the host. In this talk, Dr. Kat will summarize the work of several of her mentees who used sequencing and microbial manipulation to characterize these interactions in different populations of fish.
