Hi All,
Thanks to all who responded to the climbing activity poll! I should have finalized this earlier in the weekend, but it looks like the best day is tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 12! I realize this is last minute, but let's try for tomorrow! We have a total of 9 folks interested, so it should be a blast! We also have some folks who regularly go to this gym, so we’ll have some local know-how on hand I hope!
#1 Put your name on this google spreadsheet <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MkUm_mIva89uG-byLW4OsclDX8C56CRV0svEo6Ld0Kk/edit?usp=sharing> to organize carpools, Either put your name down as a driver or a passenger.
#2 If drivers can coordinate with their passengers to leave the Quissett Campus Clark lot around 5pm, thats gets us to the gym in New Bedford <http://carabiners.com/> at ~6pm, giving us four hours of climbing before they close at 10pm.
#3 If you haven’t been to the gym before, sign this waiver online <http://carabiners.com/first-visit/> (you can do it at the gym too, but hey, save a minute!)
Didn’t answer the poll but want to go? Sign up on the Google carpool sheet! <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MkUm_mIva89uG-byLW4OsclDX8C56CRV0svEo6Ld0Kk/edit?usp=sharing>
I’ve only been to this gym once, so others who have more experience please speak up if I miss something/get something wrong! Bring your harness and shoes if you have them; otherwise we can rent them there ($4 apiece). They also belay with Grigris there (sorry no ATCs), so bring one if you have it , or they can be rented there also ($4 apiece).
If you’ve never climbed at this gym before, you will have to pass a quick belay test with the Grigri before you can belay. If you haven’t used one before they do offer belay instruction at an hourly rate…or another post doc can probably teach you :) Depending on the group, there might be several of you who want to learn to belay, which they can do for you there on an ad hoc basis. There is also ample bouldering available as well! Or if you just want to climb, I think we’ll have enough folks to belay for you!
Please come join us, the more the merrier. There is something for all skill and experience levels!
Email the thread if you have any questions!
Your PDA activity folks,
Eily and Simon
