JP students and WHOI postdocs:
Thanks to a WHOI Technical Staff Award "Enhancing software development
skills for better science in less time," WHOI's Ocean Informatics
advisory group will host one more Carpentries workshop in 2018. These
popular two-day workshops are geared towards foundational software
development, computational, and data science skills. For more
information, please consult: http://carpentries.org/
The *workshop is scheduled for October 22-23* and will offer
programming, data wrangling, and visualization with R and collaborating
with GitHub: https://jules32.github.io/2018-10-22-whoi/
*Registration is required*, and space is limited. You need this password
(*swcwhoi18*) to register at:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/woods-hole-oceanographic-institution-software-carpentry-workshop-tickets-49610147286
There are no pre-requisites for this workshop. After you register,
please complete the pre-workshop survey so that we can tailor the
lessons to your needs (link to survey is on workshop webpage
<https://jules32.github.io/2018-10-22-whoi/>).
/Also note:/ JP student Craig McLean is one of the Helpers at this
workshop. I want to thank Craig for contacting JP Reps for funding a
special-edition JP social hour right after the workshop. Instructors (as
well as some workshop participants from the WHOI technical staff) will
be there to chat about how software development fits into their
scientific careers. We envision the social as a means of building a
community of fellow data scientists and support groups for
troubleshooting and coding suggestions.
Please feel free to contact me (stace at whoi.edu) x3536 or Craig
(crmclean at mit.edu) for more information.
Best regards on behalf of WHOI's Ocean Informatics advisory group
