I was alerted to an unusual plankton bloom 5 miles South of the Hood Canal
bridge, 0.5 miles North of a development called Bridgehaven on the South
Point Road late on the evening of July 15. Associated with the bloom were
a couple of dead perch. I was able to send out a team of SoundToxins
phytoplankton monitoring and research volunteers on July 16 that live
nearby and they were able to grab a sample of the bloom and identify the
contents.

Between the observations and photos from the Rock Point Oyster Company
combined with the Port Townsend Marine Science Center based SoundToxins
monitor efforts I can confirm a *Heterosigma akashiwo*bloom and about 150
dead smaller sized perch in a 50 foot swath at that location.

Best,

Teri
