Greetings,

A Cocolithiphore bloom is beginning in the main portion of Hood Canal. It is increasing in strength daily since it was observed a few days ago. It is moving southerly and has turned the corner into the lower portion of the Canal. From the satellite images, it does not appear to be moving northerly - the epicenter of last years nearly month long Cocolithiophore boom (June 24, 2016).

We are posting images on Bivalves for Clean Water Facebook page - you can see last year's bloom photos there as well.

This bloom is about a week earlier than last year - given the other early transitions that we've seen in Hood Canal this year, not unexpected.

Teri
