King County samples this week from both Point Jefferson and East Passage in central Sound showed blooms of Akashiwo sanguinea, a dinoflagellate that produces red tides and is often considered a harmful species.

We flew an Eyes Over Puget Sound flight yesterday afternoon (9/11) between Seattle and Olympia (time, 3:45-  5:00 PM, altitude 2500 feet).

We documented intense red brown blooms in:


*         Eld Inlet (example  picture)

*         Budd Inlet

*         Sinclair Inlet

*         Dyes Inlet (example  picture)

*         Agates Passage(Bainbridge Island)

*         Eagle Harbor (Bainbridge Island)

*         Hidden Cove (Bainbridge Island) (example picture)
