Heterosigma cells were first noticed at around 70,000 cells/L this morning
near Bainbridge Island by American Gold Seafoods staff and by this afternoon
a parcel of water with concentrations exceeding 1.3 million cells per liter
was flowing through Clam Bay and adjacent waters. Fish are dying and
mitigation measures are being conducted. NOAA researchers will be sampling
tomorrow morning and there are some neap tides and moderately fair weather
occurring that suggest that the bloom may continue and/or spread.
