To all SoundHABs participants
Our project will be featured on KUOW (and NPR) "Morning edition" on
Monday, June 6. It will be a 7 min description of our research on the
fish-killing alga, Heterosigma akashiwo, here at Friday Harbor Labs in
the San Juan Islands.

I will send the link once I know it.

Also check out our Facebook fan page

Click on "Wall" to see some fantastic video explaining our research.

We have seen the diatom community (primarily Skeletonema, Thalassionema
with some nice Pseudo-nitzschia chains) become surface floccs in East
Sound, Orcas Island. More numerous flagellate have been observed in
recent net tow samples, especially at the mouth of the Sound. No
numbers of H. akashiwo of any significance have been observed. We will
do an extensive survey of E. Sound tomorrow, Sunday June 5, as the
surface water temperatures are creeping to 13.5oC or higher. The head
of the Sound is stratified (near the town of Eastsound), with a
fluorescence maximum between 5-15 m.

We return to Seattle on June 9. I will send another summary before
then. Regards, Vera Trainer
